Stories from the Noon Crew: Christina (Noon Flow, Wednesdays)

I was introduced to yoga 13 years ago and have been practicingconsistently ever since.  I took my first Ashtanga led primary class alittle over a decade ago and was mesmerized by the strength and controlthat the practitioners demonstrated as they moved gracefully from onepose to the next.  They were fully embedded, wholly involved in thepractice – I was completely drawn in.

Daily practice has been, and continues to be, an experience that revealsstrengths and weaknesses both physically and mentally.  I always findthe work interesting whether I’m practicing foundational postures or thevery difficult arm balances of the third series of Ashtanga yoga (somedays are certainly more pleasurable than others!) Over the years I havecome to realize that yoga is the practice of proving yourself wrong.

My yoga teaching perspective comes from a medical background as asurgical and primary care nurse practitioner with experience inneurosurgery, orthopedics and women’s health.  My teaching is furthercomplemented by the teachings of some of the best vinyasa teachers inthe world.  Yoga is my favorite way to move and it’s truly an honor toshare the best of what I have learned over many years of practice andstudy.  I love Vinyasa style yoga and appreciate the value of controlledtransitions between the poses.  To me the spaces between the posturesare the yoga. These are opportunities to cultivate strength, control, and focus.  I love creating new sequences, highlighting creativetransitions combining traditional style yoga with modern functionalmovement in order to help students take their practice to the nextlevel.
