Aleah Sommers

Grounded in her own practice, Aleah’s teaching is motivated by a sense of service, opening doors for others. She is delighted to pass on these teachings and practices for moving through the world fully embodied, with clarity, balance, and calm. She encourages approaching yoga with a sense of openness and curiosity, always willing to begin again and meet ourselves exactly as we are.

Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Aleah began learning yoga at an early age, with a formal practice since 2003. After serving as a Peace Corps volunteer for two years in a remote indigenous community in the mountains of Panama and practicing yoga by candelight every night in her bamboo hut, she completed her first official teacher training at Shoshoni Yoga Ashram in the mountains of Colorado in 2012. She has also studied deeply with Shannon Paige and Yogarupa Rod Stryker, and Erica Kaufman has been a special influence. Since 2016, Aleah has practiced and studied intensely in the Ashtanga yoga tradition with Ty Landrum, Mary Taylor, and Richard Freeman. For several years, she taught regular classes at studios in Boulder, Colorado and at Parmarth Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh, India, and has led numerous workshops and retreats in Colorado, India, Utah, and Mexico. She currently lives in Norwich, Vermont..

Aleah also holds a PhD in civil engineering and works at Dartmouth College, studying water drainage beneath the Greenland ice sheet.
