Summer Changes Rolling In

Meet Sue Howard! She begins teaching at UVY next week.
Next week I begin teaching the Monday morning level 1-2, and gentle yoga at the studio. I will be taking over Liz’s spot as she launches herself into new adventures. I am honored. For those who don’t know me I came to yoga about twelve years ago, I love to move. I was dancing a lot and looking for a complement, as a warm-up and a way to more deeply explore alignment. Britton Mann was my first teacher; his attention to alignment, careful instruction, and gentle push kept me coming back.

From there I found Leslie and Upper Valley Yoga at its home in Norwich. Yoga has a way of taking hold, of becoming something that permeates all aspects of your life, expanding one in ways I never would have imagined. More teachers came into my life. I have studied extensively with Deb Neubauer and Michele George and completed Michele’s Teacher Training in 2013. The journey just gets deeper, I continue to study and practice – asana, meditation, philosophy, and that’s what I love – there is always more.

Teaching feels like the natural transition. I love seeing folks eyes light up after a practice, the joy of recognition when something clicks. I love the community and the support we give each other to try, to learn, to be.

Life can get very bumpy and in this small studio we all come together with our joys, or heartaches, our struggles and somehow the practice gets us through. We hold each other up without words.

Off the mat, I work in the soil. I am a horticulturist by trade and design and build gardens. My work feeds me in much the same way. I am constantly awed by the beauty of this planet. My asana practice keeps my body strong and able to do the physical day to day. My meditation practice helps to keep everything in perspective. I like to think that we can make everything we do a prayer.

My plan for these classes is to have fun, to explore our boundaries, try new things. It’s summer, it’s warm, and our muscles are pliable. Alignment is important to me – that will be reflected in class. I am up for requests for taking time with a particular pose. Lets see what unfolds. Looking forward to meeting you all. Sz
